Patrick Saunders has worked at a variety of jobs, from marketing and teaching to a stint as a Hallmark artist. Today he is a fine artist who paints everything from pet portraits to landscapes to florals. It took quite a while for him to get to where he is today but the route was well worth his effort. One thing that    hasn’t changed over the years, however, is his focus on telling stories with his art.

Saunders, who lives in San Antonio, Texas, has earned a myriad of awards for his work, including a gold medal from the Oil Painters of America in 2020 and master signature status with that group. He’s also a signature member of the Portrait Society of America. He traces his interest in art and storytelling back to seeing the movie, “Stars Wars,” when it hit theaters in 1977.

His excitement grew when he discovered the movie’s production paintings, concept art, and drawings by Ralph McQuarrie, and a book titled “The Art of Star Wars” captured his attention. “It excited me so much that art could create a new world like that that I started doing things like that,” he says, adding that he started to draw storyboards for his own stories.
