When she was a senior in high school, Barbara Edwards met a recruiter from Utah State University, who had brought with him original artworks created by several of the professors there. Included was what Barbara describes as a “gorgeous painting by Glen Edwards.” Today, whenever she wants to view one of his paintings, all Barbara has to do is turn her head. She and Glen have been married for 37 years now and happily paint in the same studio at their home north of Salt Lake City, Utah. “We paint side by side,” she says. “Our easels are about five feet apart.” It’s a rather unusual arrangement, but one that suits Barbara and Glen well. Their love for each other, as well as their admiration for each other’s work, is more than a little apparent during a recent visit. What started out as a friendship almost four decades ago has evolved into a joining of two people who are so connected that they finish each other’s sentences and wouldn’t trade their time together for anything.

A String Of Three, By Glen Edwards
Oil
30″ By 50″
“In this painting, the cowboy is crossing the Cheyenne River in South Dakota with his string of three newly acquired horses. He is on his way home. The low, evening light creates alluring values, colors, and shapes. I enjoy watching and painting the movement of animals in water. A rear view seems unexpected and, in some ways, more interesting. The spacing and relationship of the animals created an appealing composition.”

Down From The Mountains
Oil

“His name is Pilgrim (Jay Lewis). He is a special friend I really enjoy painting and have done so countless times. Pilgrim loves the mountains, the way of life, and the history of the mountain men. He has an impressive collection of trappings: guns, hats, clothing, ornaments, furs, etc. In this painting I had the opportunity to paint some of his collectibles, providing interesting color, shapes, and a variety of textures, including fur, hair, fabrics, leather, and metal.”

Searching For The Perfect Color
Oil
20″ By 30″
“I have a love for pattern and color that I must have inherited from my grandmother and her quilts, thus I love quilts. In another life I would have been a quilter instead of a painter! This painting depicts that need and love to create and the continual search for the perfect color, an activity I engage in every day.”
