“I belong outdoors. I love painting on location, and I love the beauty and peace that comes with standing before Mother Nature and reacting to her incurable glory.”
That, says Kim Lordier, is why she paints landscapes. And she does so beautifully, whether capturing scenes near her home in California, or packing up her pastels and heading to locations in other states.
“California is rich in landscape—mountains, desert dynamic coastal range, and everything in between,” she says.

“A kaleidoscope of color and pattern . . . chaotic organization . . . dark and light . . . I am intrigued by these variables. This painting probably has more correlation to my life than I am willing to recognize or admit!”

“We were heading up into the Rockies to paint, after a successful showing at the Coors Western Art Show and Exhibit in Denver, Colorado. I was originally drawn to the rhythmic patterns of snow and coating of thin ice, as it meandered through the rich palette of the dry brush and reeds. Then the sky started to clear, and I couldn’t get it all down before we moved on. I was so eager to bring my notes home and develop this studio painting. This painting was honored with the Fine Art Connoisseur Award of Excellence at this year’s 103rd California Art Club’s Medal Show at the Autry National Center.”
