George Hallmark’s wife Lisa answers the phone and, when asked how she is, responds, “I’m great; I’m married to the most wonderful person I’ve ever met.”

A few days later, during the interview for this article, Hallmark says of Lisa, a former executive secretary and professional singer, “She is the love of my life, and she takes care of me every day.”

To say that these two are happy would be an understatement. Their relationship is an enviable combination of love, admiration, and support. In fact, when Hallmark talks about his paintings, he often uses “we” rather than “I.” For example, when asked about any changes coming in the future, he says, “I don’t think we’ve done our best painting yet.”

“On a recent trip to Mexico, I discovered this small alter off the main chancel area. I loved how the old, white wall picked up both cool and warm colors. Someone asked recently if I were a Christian, because I paint a lot of religious architecture. The answer, of course, is yes.”

Serenidad

“As you walk down shaded cobblestone sidewalks in Mexico, you pass along high walls. Occasionally, you come to a gate, or opening, that allows you to discover what was hidden beyond. Sometimes it is a small patio, sometimes a child’s playground, but every once in a while you stumble on a place of utter tranquility, a place of pure serenity—Serenidad.”
