Whether he’s painting the desert near Palm Springs, vineyards in Tuscany, or a street scene in China, California artist John Budicin captures the beauty, of each, illuminating them with a light that has caused the hearts of more than a few viewers to beat a little more rapidly. Those paintings have earned him numerous awards, membership in several prestigious art organizations, and an enthusiastic following of art aficionados.

Pulling Up Weeds
Oil
20″x20″
This area is in New Brunswick, Canada, an area rich with working boats and small harbors. This is backbreaking work, pulling up seaweeds, filling their boats until it is but a few inches above the water. I learned the sea weeds are used for fertilizer.

Ladies Of The Evening
Oil
18″x24″
I was painting in this area in the afternoon. The wash, mountains, and sunlight made for a good combination. The painting seemed to be working and nearing completion. Suddenly, the light changed into a red glow. This transformation was magical. I had a choice to stay with what I had or change everything and go for the light. The decision was to go for it. Lucky for me it worked.
